There IS a difference when choosing a dentist…all dentists are not equal!

Did you know there is a BIG difference between dentists when you are trying to find one for your child.  There are specialists and general dentists.  A pediatric specialist is the BEST choice for getting more complex dental procedures completed.  Also, does the dentist allow you to be with your child when getting dental work completed?  If not, RUN away!! Stay away from these clinics.  Why would a dentist not want a parent to be with their child during a very stressful scary moment for them? If you can’t identify a reason, that’s because there isn’t a good one.  Some dentists will tell you the child does better when the parent isn’t present.  That is bogus in most instances and just doesn’t make sense.  You don’t let a child stay in a car by themselves because of the risk of something going wrong while you are away. You don’t send a young child into a public restroom by themselves because you aren’t there to help them should they need you.  So don’t send your child to the back with a dentist unless they allow you to be present with them.  When a child is in the back of the dental office with the staff, you as a parent want to know they are being well cared for.  Some offices place kids in physical restraints to perform a dental procedure on them.  Don’t allow this!!! Find a pediatric dentist who allows you to be next to your child during treatment and doesn’t physically restrain your child to complete dental work.  It’s more difficult on the dentist, but WAY better for the child. That’s unless you want your child to be psychologically traumatized.  I think it’s fair to assume, no parent wants that.
